Knot Today! A Guide to Your First Myotherapy Session

Thinking about booking a Myotherapy session?

Well excellent choice! You’re one step closer to ditching those painful groans every time you move.

If this is your first time, though, the idea of poking, prodding, or needles might sound intense. But don’t worry—we’re here to walk you through it so you can feel completely at ease.

Congrats, you’ve made it to the clinic! Where the Magic (and the Paperwork) Happens:

When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a friendly face (or two). Then, we’ll ask you to fill out a quick form about your medical history and current ache and pains. Think of it as a cheat sheet for us to understand what’s going on with your body.

Time to talk it out:

Now, it’s Storytime. You’ll sit down with your Myotherapist for a quick conversation. This is your chance to share where you feel pain, how long it’s been bothering you, and what might have caused it.

Feel free to ask all your burning questions, such as:

  • Will this hurt? (Short answer: Not really….)

  • Can you fix me in one session? (We wish we had magic wands, but we’ll do our best.)

  • What’s with the needles? (Don’t worry—they’re tiny, and they’re here to help.)

After the consultation, we’ll dive into a physical assessment. Don’t worry—it’s gentle. We might ask you to perform certain movements or feel around the areas of pain to get a better sense of what’s going on. This is how we pinpoint exactly what’s causing your discomfort.

The Main Event

Now for the main event—your treatment! Here’s where we get hands-on to help you feel ah-mazing. We’ll use a combination of techniques depending on what’s best for you:

  • Manual Therapy: Think of it as massage with purpose—getting rid of tension and helping you feel human again.

  • Stretching: To ease stiffness and improve flexibility.

  • Trigger Point Therapy: Specific angry sore spots. We’ll politely (or firmly) convince them to chill out.

  • Dry Needling: Fine needles target deep muscle tension for relief

  • Cupping Therapy: Fancy suction cups that increase blood flow and make your muscles go, “Ahhh.” Yes, they might leave marks, but you can pretend you had a close encounter with an octopus.

  • Pain Education: Understanding your pain is half the battle and is key when managing and reducing the pain long-term.

Pro tip: You’re in control! If something feels too intense, just let us know and we’ll adjust.

 The Post-Treatment Pep Talk

After your session, we’ll share tips to help you stay on track, including:

  • Gentle stretches to reduce tension.

  • Specific exercises to strengthen weak areas and prevent future pain.

  • Advice on what to expect in the next 24-48 hours (a little post-treatment soreness is normal!).

Our goal isn’t just to make you feel better today—we want to help you stay pain-free for the long haul.

Feeling the benefits

Within a few days, you’ll likely feel less pain, more flexibility, and reduced stress. You might even move more freely and sleep better.
